WebM Video to Markdown — Transcribe Browser Recordings
WebM is the open web video format — what most browser-based recording tools default to. Async screen-recording tools, Google Meet exports, screen recorders built into Chrome/Firefox, and MediaRecorder API outputs all produce WebM. Drop yours into the converter for a Markdown transcript.
WebM in 2026
WebM (VP8/VP9 video + Opus audio) is browser-native, doesn't require licensing, and is the default for any tool capturing video through the browser. The format is solid; the limitation is that some legacy editing tools don't accept it.
The conversion
Open Video to Markdown, upload the .webm. The Opus audio is decoded, transcribed, and structured. Output is the same Markdown format as MP4 or MOV.
WebM video vs WebM audio
WebM can also be an audio-only container. If your file is audio-only WebM (Discord voice messages, some Telegram exports), use WebM to Markdown (audio) instead — same output, faster processing without video decoding.

Frequently asked questions
Will WebM files from async screen-recording tools convert cleanly?
Yes — those tools export as WebM (or MP4 if you choose). Upload the exported file and either format converts to Markdown with the full transcript, section headings and timestamps. Speakers are not labelled: we transcribe the words without identifying the voices.
Why does my browser output WebM instead of MP4?
Browser MediaRecorder defaults to WebM because it's royalty-free and universally supported in browsers. To convert WebM to MP4 (if needed for editing), use ffmpeg locally — for transcription, we accept WebM directly.
Are Google Meet exports WebM?
Google Meet recordings save to your Drive as MP4, not WebM. Browser-based screen recordings (Chrome's built-in record feature) produce WebM. Both work for our converter.
What's the audio codec inside WebM?
Almost always Opus (the open audio codec). Some older WebM files use Vorbis. Both are decoded automatically.
Can I record directly in the browser and upload?
Yes — use any browser-based recording tool, save the WebM file, upload to our converter. No conversion step needed.
Your AI doesn't read PDFs directly. It first has to extract the text, decode the layout, ignore the metadata — before it can even start answering. A Markdown file removes all of those steps. Your AI reads it instantly. So you get faster responses, more accurate results, and zero information lost along the way.
Size-wise, it's 100 to 500 times lighter for the same content. A 15 MB PDF becomes a 30 KB .md file. So your AI knowledge base can hold hundreds of documents instead of a handful.
MDisBetter brings 19 free tools together for that — documents, videos, audio, web pages and prompts.
How does it work?
Drop a PDF, a video, an audio file or a URL. MDisBetter extracts the content and gives you a clean Markdown file. So you can send it to your AI, add it to your project files, or store it in your knowledge base — without losing anything.
